Connecting an IP video intercom to the PoE output of a Network Video Recorder?

Connecting an IP video intercom to the PoE output of a Network Video Recorder

Many IP video intercom outdoor stations and intercom monitors can be powered with standard 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE). A Network Video Recorder (NVR) can also have 802.3af PoE outputs to power IP cameras. A PoE NVR can supply a PoE intercom outdoor station and monitor with power, however, the intercom system will not function as an intercom.

In order to function fully, an IP video intercom system cannot be placed "behind an NVR" in the network.

The images from an IP video intercom outdoor station can be recorded with an NVR (or NAS) over the W(LAN) network. This can be based on the ONVIF protocol if both the NVR and the outdoor station support ONVIF or on the basis of an available (non-encrypted) RTSP video stream. By connecting the camera of an intercom outdoor station over the network it can be used as a surveillance camera with 24/7 recording of the images with an NVR.
