Dahua SIP firmware

The SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) protocol is a standardized protocol for audio and video connections over the IP network. The new firmware (version 4.x) for Dahua and X-Security IP video intercom products is based on the SIP protocol. The Dahua proprietary intercom protocol is no longer used by Dahua. The TCP/IP intercom protocol continues to exist next to the SIP protocol for push notifications to the app, the control of an electric door lock etc.

Advantages

​Some important advantages of using the new SIP protocol firmware are:

  1. Very stable intercom system
  2. Integration with SIP telephone systems of other brands
  3. Maximum of 10 VTH intercom monitors and 20 outdoor stations
  4. More security by required setting of own passwords
  5. No plugin needed anymore for a browser
  6. Web interface outdoor station now also works on MacOS
  7. Modern user interface on monitor

Consequenses

Intercom components with SIP firmware (version 4.x) cannot operate in one system with components that operate on the previous firmware version (3.2) and it is no longer possible to downgrade the firmware. An outdoor station acts as a SIP server. Due to hardware requirements the SIP firmware cannot be installed on IP video intercom products of several years old.

Due to the transition to SIP firmware the configuration of the intercom outdoor station and indoor monitor is slightly different than in the previous firmware. No additional hardware is required and the configuration can be implemented by studying the products and with a basic knowledge of the (own) IP network. Integration with SIP systems of other brands requires more knowledge of all systems to be integrated. For that reason we can only offer support for the Dahua and X-Security products and not for integration with other brands.

Dahua supplied from early 2019 IP intercom products with the new SIP firmware or with the previous version. From the beginning of 2020 Dahua only supplies IP intercom products with SIP firmware. As of June 2019 we only provide support for the SIP firmware and not for previous versions. We recommend updating the firmware.

Unverified firmware or an incorrect update procedure can make the product unusable

There are different versions of SIP firmware. The firmware can be downloaded from the Dahua website. There are also other resources on the internet that offer firmware. Also malfunctioning test versions and other language versions. This firmware can cause damage to the product.
