What is the RTSP video stream of a Hikvision intercom doorbell?

RTSP video stream of a Hikvision intercom doorbell

RTSP stands for Real Time Streaming Protocol. If an IP surveillance camera or IP intercom camera has an open RTSP video stream it can be used to display the images of the camera on other devices or software, even of third-party manufacturers. The RTSP stream can for example be used to record the images of an intercom camera on a NAS or NVR and the image of an IP camera can be embedded in a website or integrated in other software.

The RTSP stream consists of a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) address as used in a web browser for a website. The exact RTSP URL can often be found in the product documentation or can easily be found on the Internet. There is also software (such as the ONVIF device manager) for retrieving the RTSP URL. Playing an RTSP video stream can be done with VLC Player.

The RTSP video stream URL for the Hikvision DS-KB8112-IM and DS-KD8003 series is:

Main stream:
rtsp://user:password@ip_address:554/Streaming/Channels/101/

Sub stream:
rtsp://user:password@ip_address:554/Streaming/Channels/102/
